While the post-mortem report of former MLA Lavoo Mamledar is still awaited expecting to shed light on the assault, police officials from Belagavi and Goa are in touch with each other for updates.
“While the post-mortem report is awaited, senior bureaucrats and police officers are in touch with us to get updates… the accused Amirsuhil Shakilsab Sanadi has been sent to Central Prison, Hindalga,” DCP Rohan Jagdish told The Goan.
Meanwhile, the city was abuzz with discussions about the incident that rocked Belagavi city. A close friend to many, Mamledar was known for his modesty and down to earth character.
“Sir used to visit our hotel for over 15 years with family and friends and was very friendly to all the hotel staff. He was kind-hearted and generous and used to help the hotel staff. We are shocked after his tragic end,” Uday Kulal, manager of the hotel said. He was also a good friend of the owner Vitthal Hegde of Sankam Hotel which also owns Shrinivas Residency.
Speaking about the incident Kulal said everything happened within a matter of 3-4 minutes. “Mamledar had not even checked in the hotel, but had booked the room on Friday. He drove to Belagavi alone and was supposed to return to Goa Saturday evening”, he said.
“After he reached the hotel the altercation with the auto driver took place where he was hit multiple times on his head and face. Naveed Tashildar another Goan who recognised him rescued him after which Mamledar climbed the steps of our hotel to reach the reception. He mentioned feeling dizzy and attempted to reach the sofa before collapsing. The staff immediately provided first aid, including mouth-to-mouth resuscitation, but his condition worsened. We contacted the police and rushed him to the District Hospital without delay,” Kulal said.
Kulal also said that the accused was nabbed by Naveed and the hotel staff and was locked till the police arrived, after which he was handed over to the police.
Meanwhile, traders and activists too expressed shock over the tragic incident. “He was so down to earth that whenever in Belagavi he used to use my bicycle to roam around the city. He was very humble by nature and had a large friend circle in Belagavi,” Kakatkar a trader said.
Like Kakatkar many traders and noted personalities have expressed shock and grief over the demise of Lavoo Mamledar.
