The electricity department will shut down power supply in certain parts of Canacona on Saturday, as part of the bi-annual spiritual ritual of ‘Veeramel’.

According to a public intimation, all Canacona residents, businesses, and visitors to Canacona Taluka are informed that the bi-annual traditional ritual of ‘Veeramel’ will be held on February 28 (Saturday). This age-old customary event holds deep cultural and spiritual significance for the local community of Canacona.

The intimation further states that as part of the ritual observance, a complete blackout will be enforced in certain designated municipal areas from 9.30 pm to 1 am. During this time, vehicular movement will be prohibited on the following roads and junctions: National Highway (NH66), Chaudi, Ponsulem, Patnem, Colomb, Palolem, Char Rasta, Agonda Road and Gulem.

It is also informed that NH-66 will be kept blocked in both directions (towards Gulem and towards Talpona bridge) for the entire duration.

All residents, especially those involved in tourism-related activities such as hotels, guesthouses, homestays, and rental properties, have been requested to inform their guests and tenants of these arrangements in advance to avoid inconvenience.

“Public cooperation is vital for the smooth and respectful conduct of this traditional ceremony,” stated Samrat S. Bhagat, president of the Shri Nirakar Devasthan at Bhagatwada Nagarcem-Canacona.
