Saligao MLA Kedar Naik has stated that work on the Saligao power substation is nearing completion and, when inaugurated, will considerably improve the power supply in the Saligao constituency.

He was speaking at Sangolda after laying the foundation stone for the renovation of the Sangolda Hindu crematorium at Bela Vista in the presence of North Goa ZP Chairperson Reshma Bandodkar, Sangolda Sarpanch Minolette Lopes, panch members Neeta Kandolkar, Jalisha Tulaskar, Avinash Naik and the locals.

Naik mentioned that the Sangolda crematorium is being renovated by PWD at a cost of Rs 35 lakh and work is expected to be completed in two months. “This is the long-pending demand of the Sangolda Panchayat and the locals, as the condition of the crematorium had become pathetic and needed urgent renovation,” said Naik.

“Recently, four high-mast lamps costing Rs 8 lakh have been erected at Sangolda ground by Goa Tourism Development Corporation, while work on the Sangolda Panchayat Ghar is going on in full swing. Most of the internal roads in Saligao Constituency have been completed,” he added.

Panch member Jalisa Tulaskar said there was no place to store wood in the existing crematorium nor any seating arrangement for people coming to perform final rites.

“People used to face a lot of problems during the monsoon and the compound wall was also on the verge of collapse. Hence, there was an urgent need to renovate the crematorium,” said Tulaskar.

Reshma Bandodkar and Minolette Lopes also spoke on the occasion.
