PANAJI: St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar was moved to a private hospital in Campal in the early hours after doctors monitoring his fast observed a drop in key health parameters on the third night of his indefinite hunger strike.
Sources said the decision was taken as a precaution after vital signs showed worrying changes. He was shifted for further evaluation and treatment.
Despite the health scare, the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) maintained that the agitation will continue. The party said Borkar, along with Tushar Gawas, is expected to return to Azad Maidan at 11 am today as the protest enters its fourth day.
Borkar has refused to heed Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s appeal to withdraw the fast. Calling it a “karo ya maro” battle, he has made it clear that the protest will continue until Section 39A of the TCP Act is scrapped.
