Thousands of people from across the state converged at Azad Maidan in Panaji on Monday in one of the largest public mobilisations in recent years demanding the immediate repeal of Section 39A of the TCP Act and alleging large-scale illegal land conversions. Some hundreds of people later broke through police barricades and even marched to the Dona Paula residence of TCP Minister Vishwajit Rane, staged a demonstration outside his bungalow, insisting their demands be addressed. Rane, on the other hand, as expectedly refused to meet the protestors. Well, it is nice to see our Goans finally waking up from their deep sleep and coming out in large numbers to say 'enough is enough' to the anti-Goan illegal acts of our ruling politicians and unitedly fighting to save what is left of Goa. Anyway, I hope that CM Pramod Sawant will not allow this ongoing agitation to escalate in the state to settle political scores with his political rival for eyeing his hot seat but will listen to the voice of Goans and repeal Section 39A to really stop the ongoing rampant destruction/sale of land.
