All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) state convenor Mariano Rodrigues on Sunday alleged large-scale irregularities in the ongoing SIR process in Cortalim and warned of legal action, calling it an attempt to harass genuine voters and weaken democracy.

Rodrigues said the party would immediately file an appeal and, if needed, approach the High Court and the Supreme Court to protect even a single genuine voter in the constituency. He alleged that Bharatiya Janata Party members, including booth-level agents, submitted Form 7 applications seeking deletion of names of genuine voters, especially from economically weaker sections.

He claimed that names of long-settled Goan families with ancestral properties and farms were also recommended for deletion.

He further pointed to inconsistencies in the verification process, saying some family members remained on the electoral roll while others living in the same house were removed. Rodrigues also cited cases of a serving police personnel, an Army man posted at the border, and a family of three persons with disabilities whose names were allegedly deleted.

He criticised the clarification venue being fixed at Cortalim instead of Zuarinagar, saying many voters lacked transport access. He added that repeated representations to authorities had received no response and said the party would pursue all legal options within seven days.
