POWER PLAY: NAVELIM SET FOR ELECTRIFYING CONTEST

MARGAO
Will the BJP test the electoral waters in Navelim in the 2022 Assembly election, is a question that did the rounds on Friday, after Power Minister Nilesh Cabral descended on Navelim village to inaugurate a couple of power transformers.

While there was no politics involved at the inauguration, it was quite apparent that the ruling party may not be averse to throwing its hat in the election ring in the ensuing polls. While Cabral sought blessings of the local people in the coming days, that Cabral was accompanied by BJP stalwarts from Navelim, including ZP member Ulhas Tuemkar, Satyavijai Naik and Paresh Naik has sent a clear message that the ruling party means business this time round.

Sources in the BJP pointed out that the local party unit is gearing up to meet any situation, including contesting the polls on the party banner. The party has already constituted all the 36 booth committees as well as the various committees, including the ST morcha, yuva, mahila, etc. “We are all ready to face any situation in Navelim. Like any other constituency, our unit in Navelim is also working on the ground, building and strengthening the party at the booth level”, informed a senior party leader.

He added: “Right now, we have not received clear instructions from the party leadership that the party will contest the polls in Navelim in 2022. But, on our part, we have been working on the ground like in any other constituency”.

Local BJP leaders sounded confident that the party will descend on the Navelim battlefield with many players setting their eyes on the constituency. “In the past, our workers had ensured the defeat of the Congress party through tactical voting. But, we have now reached a stage wherein the party candidate can sail through with too many players eyeing for the Congress vote”, the leader said.

“Since there’s no MLA representing Navelim after Luizinho Faleiro’s resignation, party leaders accompanied the Power Minister for the inaugurations”, he added.

Faleiro praised: Is Cipru
coming close to TMC?

MARGAO: Navelim Zilla Panchayat member Cipru Cardozo on Friday reminded that outgoing Navelim MLA Luizinho Faleiro had taken up a host of development works in the constituency, including strengthening of the power infrastructure.

Speaking at a programme held to inaugurate a power transformer at Navelim at the hands of Power Minister Nilesh Cabral, Cipru recalled that the outgoing MLA had proposed and followed up the power infrastructure works in the constituency.

The three-time Navelim ZP member, sources said, is also bracing up to contest the 2022 Assembly polls. He had polled 3000-plus votes in the 2017 election. That Cipru has showered praises on Faleiro has only left tongues wagging whether he has come close to the outgoing MLA and the TMC.

Riding on promise of jobs, AAP
holds grand rally of youngsters

MARGAO: Gearing up for the 2022 electoral battle for the Navelim seat, the Aam Aadmi Party staged an impressive rally of youngsters, which wend its way through various villages covering the constituency.

Led by Party leader, Adv Pratima Coutinho, the rally centered around the unemployment situation and AAP National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal’s promise to the Goan youth to create jobs in both the government and the private sector.

Just before the start of the rally, Pratima told the media that the youth have all come to participate in the rally because unemployment is on the rise in the state. “The people and the youth of Navelim know that the Congress and BJP governments have only taken them for a ride on the promise of providing jobs. They have only used and exploited the youth for their selfish motive as lakhs of Goan youth are unemployed despite having degrees”, she said.

Saying that the youth of Navelim have vowed that they will not get exploited by the political parties, Pratima said AAP will create jobs for the Goan youth.

Pratima took a dig at the outgoing Congress MLA Luizinho Faleiro, saying people of Navelim have been made orphans following the resignation of the MLA.

She also said Navelkars do not want candidates who will be remote controlled by their parents.
