The gram sabha presided by Sarpanch Damodar Naik discussed various issues including LED street lights which are not functioning.
Deepak Gawade said non-Goans who secured jobs in nearby industries take rooms on rent in the villages, which has resulted in unemployment for the locals. “Industries are also engaging the non-Goans for work. This has created serious problems, as the locals are not getting jobs,” Gawade said. Many present villagers agreed with Gawade.
The villagers also complained of open defecation and garbage being littered in the places, where non-Goan are residing. Taking cognizance of the issue, the panchayat assured to enquire into the issue with police help.
A villager said that kiosks along the highways are run by non-Goans, as owners have sublet them. He said this has to stop. The sarpanch said it can be curbed only by putting a condition that the kiosk cannot
be sublet.
Locals complained that the installed LED street lights are not functioning at many places. The panchas also informed that the contractor has failed to install LEDs in all wards.
Sarpanch Naik informed that 353 toilets have been sanctioned for the locals to curb open defecation.
Deputy Sarpanch Sukanti Gawade, Panchas Paresh Prabhugaonkar, Nemu Naik, Varadh Mardolkar, Rangannath Kuncolienkar, Prashant Priolkar, Raju Naik and Aditi Gawade were present. Panchayat secretary Kapil Naik and observer Rupali Pai were also present.
