MARGAO

The Forest Department has started investigating allegations of mangrove destruction along the banks of the River Sal at the Cavelossim stretch.

Cavelossim Sarpanch Dixon Vaz told the media that he had informed the Forest Department to launch an inquiry after taking note of a video on the alleged mangrove destruction that had gone viral.

The sarpanch said that as forest officials faced difficulty accessing the stretch by land, a vessel was provided to help the team inspect the area and take necessary action.

“Let the Forest Department conduct its study based on the inspection report and identify the person involved in the destruction of mangroves,” Vaz added.
