Describing the development agenda of the former Mapusa councillors a sham, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Thursday said the people of Mapusa were suffering due to lack of basic facilities like good roads and regular water and power supply.

The NCP has also requested the chief officer of Mapusa Municipal Council (MMC) to conduct an inspection and prepare a report of the works done by the councillors in the last five years.

“The former councillors of the Mapusa Municipal Council have said they have spent Rs 90 crore for development works carried out in Mapusa. Most of the roads in town are bad. We don’t get proper water and power supply. If we don’t get these basic facilities, what works are they talking about?” asked Sanjay Barde, General Secretary of NCP.

The NCP general secretary along with a group of people met the MMC Chief Officer Kabir Shirgaonkar and handed over a memorandum to him.

According to Barde, illegal constructions were flourishing in Mapusa while the vendors were doing business in the Mapusa market without following proper guidelines.

He said the former councillors have failed to provide basic facilities to the common man.

“These councillors only announce their agendas in their manifesto at the time of elections when they visit the common man’s house to ask for votes,” he said.

“Hope our MMC chief officer will investigate the amount spent by the Mapusa Municipal Council and the councillors for the so-called development in Mapusa which we common people cannot see in our naked eyes,” Barde said.
