Goyant Kollso Naka (GKN) and all the groups fighting against coal transportation and coal infrastructure projects through Goa has decided to step up the ongoing agitation.
As a first step in this phase, the organizations will hold a 12-hour night watch from 10.30 pm on December 18 to December 19 morning at Arossim village.
“Our agitation will begin at 10.30 pm on December 18 and end the next day on December 19, the day Goa was supposed to have been liberated,” GKN co-convenor Abhijit Prabhudesai stated.
He said the coal plans for Goa, the refusal of Government of Goa to listen to voice of the people and its slavery to the profits of a few corporations shows that nothing has changed from the days of colonial rule. “Therefore, this struggle of the people of Goa is the real liberation struggle for Goa, which all Goans must understand and join,” he added.
GKN Convenor Antonio D’Silva has requested all Goans and lovers of Goa to join the protesters for the night watch for 12 hours at Arossim village. We also remind the Government of Goa that this movement will continue till all the demands placed before it are fulfilled and that this movement will only be intensified until these demands are met,” he said.
Antonio further said the survival of the future generations and this entire World are linked to the ongoing struggle, adding that “it is the responsibility of every citizen to stop this coal transportation project, if we have any love for our children”.
This is a first major agitation Goyant Kollso Naka and other organizations have unveiled to up the ante against the controversial linear projects, including track doubling, coal transporation and the Tanmar power lines project after the Zilla Panchayat election results.
Though the government tried to puncture the ongoing agitation by treating the ZIlla panchayat election result as a vote against the stir, a claim that has been hotly disputed by the organizations, including Goyant Kollso Naka and GoemchoEkvott, which have vowed to take the agitation to the logical conclusion.
