PANAJI

It was an outpouring of grief for the CRPF jawans martyred during a terrorist strike in Pulwama district of J&K and outrage towards Pakistan and the terrorists, as people from all walks of life staged several rallies and condolence meets across the State on Saturday.

Several candlelit rallies and meetings were staged in different parts of Tiswadi, Bardez, Bicholim, Mormugao and Canacona talukas, as people remembered the martyred jawans and their bereaved families, while denouncing Pakistan for supporting terrorism.

Several messages were also circulated on online social media, urging people to honour the slain jawans and show support and strength to their families in different ways, some of which included lighting of candles, circulating patriotic messages and participating in candlelit marches.

In Panaji, Fomento Media and a large number of locals paid tributes to the jawans who were martyred in a terrorist strike at Pulwama, during a candlelit vigil on Miramar beach on Saturday evening.

Speaking on the event, which was organised by Fomento Media, Usha Narvekar said Pakistan had been repeatedly attacking India and it was high time to teach them a lesson.

Rahul Haldankar of Vasco refused to celebrate his birthday on Saturday and instead, chose to participate in the candlelit vigil at Miramar to pay tribute to the martyred soldiers.

“I will not celebrate my birthday until our brothers don't rest in peace. Let's keep the lamp burning…Tolerance and our dignity is not our weakness. Hindustan, time for a befitting reply,”

Elsewhere, retired servicemen had also organised a similar event at Azad Maidan on Saturday evening. Speakers during the meeting said terrorists should be taught a lesson and shouted slogans condemning Pakistan for supporting the terrorists.

Anant Joshi, Capt. Dattaram Sawant, Krishna Shetkar and Mandev Narolkar were among those present at the event.
