Ratnagiri 6 & 7 and Goa Dhan 1 & 3 offered with govt subsidy

The Krishi Vigyan Kendra, South Goa, has decided to introduce Ratnagiri 6 & 7 paddy in the ensuing season in all the seven talukas in the district.
The KVK will also spread awareness amongst farmers cultivating fields in khazan land to go for Goa Dhan 1 & 3 in the coming season.
KVK Project Coordinator Shivram Gaonkar told the media that the Ratnagiri 6 & 7, which is brown rice, is a good variety of paddy on par with Jaya and Jyoti varieties, which are very popular amongst Goan farmers.
“We have conducted trials of Ratnagiri 7 wherein we have reached the conclusion that this variety, which is on par with Jaya and Jyoti, can bring in better yield for the farmers. Hence, we have decided to spread awareness amongst the farmers by going in for production in a limited manner this ensuing season,” he said, adding that test results will help to convince the farmers to go for Ratnagiri 7 in a big way.
He added: “Ratnagiri 7 is brown rice, which is presently in big demand amongst the people of Goa and outside. It is also on par with Jaya and Jyoti. Hence, we will motivate the farmers to go in for Ratnagiri 7 seed this season.”
On the khazan fields, Gaonkar said that farmers were distributed Goa Dhan 1 & 3 seed for the khazan fields. “The yield has been good. But the yield is still more if this variety is grown even in fields other than khazans. The government is providing the seeds at subsidised rates,” he said, while making a plea to the farmers to go in for the variety of rice in the coming season.
