The contract workers of Public Works Department attached to the Labour Supply Society staged a dharna outside the Assembly complex on Wednesday morning, demanding absorption in the government.
Speaking to media persons, contact workers said Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had assured that they would be absorbed in regular services by September 30, 2018.
“Later, the chief minister told us that he would form a separate committee to resolve our issue. Again on January 1, the chief minister mentioned to us that the decision regarding our service would be placed before a cabinet meeting, The chief minister is cheating us,” complained a contract worker.
The contract workers said they had staged a dharna at Panaji on February 13 and had given an ultimatum that if their issue was not solved within a week, they would protest on the street with their family.
“Since the government did not take any decision, we have staged a dharna with family members outside the Assembly complex at Porvorim to get our grievances resolved,” said another contract worker.
