Long forgotten by PWD officials, the JICA funded vehicles are expected to hit the road after repairs as incumbent Executive Engineer, Sewerage Agnelo Barros has moved for the repairs of the JICA funded vehicles, lying dumped at the Sirvodem treatment plant complex for close to half-a-decade now.

eer to invite quotations to undertake work on removing all blockages that has hit the Arlem-Sirvodem north main line, resulting in overflowing of sewage in the fields, water bodies and in residential areas.
No PWD official was in a position to confirm whether the camera mounted vehicle, which can detect blockages in the underground sewage line, was put to use since it was placed at the disposal of the Sirvodem plant. "It may cost the PWD less than Rs 5 lakh to repair these JICA funded vehicles, but it will help the PWD in the project to clear all blockages in the damaged North main underground sewage line," Barros said.
The PWD, Sewerage department has already moved two files for a nod from the Principal Chief Engineer for the two quotations to undertake work on the north main line. "No doubt, the government is laying a new Rs 130 crore Arlem-Sirvodem sewage line replacing the existing damaged line. But, it may take more than a year to complete the proposed project. In the meantime, what we intend to do is to call for quotations inviting prospective agencies in the work of clearing all blockages in the underground line. This will help better flow of the sewage water through the underground line and prevent sewage overflowing," Barros said.
Officials said the clean up exercise of the underground line will be carried in the vulnerable 7-km stretch, from Ambaji to Sirvodem, wherein sewage overflowing is rampant as evident by sewage water finding its way into the fields, water bodies and the River Sal along the Khareband-Sirvodem stretch.
