There’s good news in store for Ravindra Bhavan Margao as the PWD is on the job to bring about a turnaround in the cultural institution.
If Minister Nilesh Cabral is to be believed, the PWD will fix all issues plaguing Ravindra Bhavan Margao by May this year. He further said efforts are underway to settle the dispute between the contractor and an agency over the construction of a wing so that it is also thrown up for activities.
“The PWD has taken up painting and other works at Ravindra Bhavan Margao. One may be able to find the difference at the institution then and now after I take up the work of sprucing up the building,” he told The Goan.
Cabral pointed out that painting, plugging the water leakages and waterproofing will be taken up soon, adding that work on the Ravindra Bhavan building will be complete before May this year,” he said.
He added: “I have plans to complete all works at the Ravindra Bhavan Margao by May. In this respect, I will discuss with the Chief Minister for sanction of funds as I also intend to take up electrical works.”
Referring to the controversy over the non-functioning air conditioning facility last year, which prompted the management of the cultural institutions to stop staging tiatr shows, the PWD Minister said all issues plaguing Ravindra Bhavan will be henceforth tackled by the PWD. “Whether it is air conditioning facility or other issues, the PWD will take up the maintenance of Ravindra Bhavan,” he added.
Pointing out that a separate wing built at the Ravindra Bhavan has not been occupied to date, Cabral said he would try to resolve the issues between the contractor and the agency so that the wing, built to accommodate a hostel facility, is thrown open for the public.
Ravindra Bhavan has been craving attention over the last decade with the infrastructure, including the beautification works put in place ahead of the 2011 IFFI festival, including the interlocking pavers, crumbling for want of maintenance.
