PWD Minister Deepak Pauskar on Wednesday said his department has taken measures to fix water leakages and import tar to ensure works are not kept pending.
Pauskar was speaking after inaugurating a bridge at Gaune-Bandora, which connects Undir and Karanjale.
Those present at the function included Marcaim MLA Sudin Dhavalikar, Bandora Sarpanch Ramchandra Naik, Zilla Panchayat member Chitra Phadate, Kavale Sarpanch Rajesh Kavalekar, Kundaim Sarpanch Ramu Naik, Marcaim Sarpanch Deepa Naik and Adpai-Durbhat Sarpanch Saroja Naik.
The former MGP MLA turned BJP minister praised the work of MGP leader Sudin Dhavalikar regarding the Gaune-Bandora bridge and other works as well.
“He (Sudin Dhavalikar) has good vision. All must appreciate him for his good work. In the last 20 years, he has done a good job as a PWD minister,” said Pauskar.
“It was the dream of former Chief Minister late Manohar Parrikar to build bridges, wherever required, to cut short the distance. However, many projects are pending because of land issues.”
Pauskar cited example of Chorao, where a bridge has been a long-pending demand of the islanders.
“The Chorao bridge issue is pending. Manoharbhai (Parrikar) used to meet me with this file in the GSIDC every three months but the land issue could not be resolved. But now, Mayem MLA Pravin Zantye has showed great interest in the project and is trying to resolve the issue,” said Pauskar.
“Building bridges has become a challenge, but the Marcaim MLA (Dhavalikar) had tackled this issue and hence, credit goes to him and the locals,” Pauskar added.
Stating that tar is not available and hence hot-mixing of roads connecting this bridge was pending, Pauskar said tar has been in shortage since many national highways are being built.
“We are taking measures to ensure various projects do not remain pending and hence, we have decided to import tar,” said the minister.
Later speaking to The Goan, Pauskar said he would hold a meeting with an agency and would discuss about importing the tar.
“We have not decided from which country we will import the tar. At present, we get it from Mumbai and Kerala. We want quality tar and we will stress on this,” said Pauskar.
He also informed the gathering that water leakages and illegal tapping of water by industries would be checked within the next ten days.
