MARGAO
Revenue Minister Rohan Khaunte on Thursday said that the PWD will take over the maintenance of the imposing South Goa district Collectorate from the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC).
The Revenue Minister further said he along with TCP Minister Vijai Sardesai will take up the issue of the mutilated birth records pertaining to the year 1968-1971 with Law Minister Francis D’Souza to mitigate the hardships faced by the citizens of
Salcete.
Talking to the media on the sidelines of the launching of the Citizens Service Centre (CSC) in the South district Collectorate on Thursday, the Revenue Minister said that the GSIDC will hand over the district Collectorate building to the PWD for maintenance.
“Once the building is handed over to the PWD for maintenance, I foresee a turnaround in the functioning of the building, be it the operation of lifts, water in the toilets etc,” he said.
To a question, he said the GSIDC is only an agency to execute public utility projects and does not look into the maintenance of buildings.
On the demand made by Benaulim MLA Churchill Alemao to streamline the issuance of birth certificates at the Salcete Sub registrar office housed in the Collectorate building, the Revenue Minister said he and the TCP Minister are seized of the problem.
“We had in the past discussed the issue and we intend to take up the matter with Law Minister Francis D’Souza since the office sub registrar comes under the law ministry”, he said, while promising to work out a solution to mitigate the hardships faced by the citizens.
The Benaulim MLA had raised the issue of the mutilated birth records in the Salcete sub registrar office and the failure of the government to give relief to the citizens.
