Stating that panchayats have a valuable contribution to realise the goal of development and self-sufficiency, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday called upon the local bodies in rural areas to promote the tourism industry in the State.
“Panchayat elections were held in a very peaceful and friendly atmosphere. Our focus is not on politics but social cause and the development of every panchayat,” said Sawant.
He was speaking to reporters after casting his vote at a polling station in Kothambi ward of Pale panchayat in Bicholim taluka.
“Abundant funds have been made available to Panchayats through the 14th Finance Commission. We are undertaking many initiatives for rural tourism, small-scale industries, home industry and self-reliance. The government is making special efforts to make panchayats more capable and self-reliant,” said Sawant.
“My dream is that every person should get work so that every household is prosperous. For this purpose, many innovative activities will be undertaken at the panchayat level.”
