Speaking to media persons, Godinho also announced the list of wards which have been reserved for the Scheduled Caste community. The State government had already announced it would hold elections on June 11, after the Bombay High Court at Goa decreed that they should hold elections on or before June 12.
Nine wards have been reserved for SC community. They are Ward No. 7 at Agarwada Chopdem panchayat, Ward No. 6 of Casnem Amere Poroscodem panchayat, Ward No. 4 Advalpal panchayat, Ward No. 2 of Tamboxe Mopa Uguem panchayat, Ward No. 7 of Torxem panchayat, Ward No. 4 of Ibrampur Hankhane panchayat, Ward No. 5 of Querim Tiracol panchayat, Ward No. 3 Cotorem panchayat, and Ward No. 3 of Ona Mauliguem Curchirem village panchayats.
The gazette notification of delimitation and reservation of panchayat wards is expected to be published either on Saturday or early next week.
The Constitution mandates reservation of 33 per cent of the total seats for women. In addition to this, seats are also reserved for the three other categories based on population. In addition to this, as per 2011 census, population of ST stands at 12 per cent, OBC at 27 per cent and SC at 1.67 per cent. Wards will be reserved in consonance with these figures.
A total of 1,522 wards across 186 panchayats, with the exclusion of Alorna, Chandel-Hasapur, Harvale, Casarvornem and Taleigao panchayats.
There are 191 panchayats of which 186 are completing their five-year term in May.
