The Quelossim Sarpanch Maria Souza on Friday wrote to Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha about the objection of Quelossim locals over the proposed hotel project at Kesarval.

Souza also sent a copy of the gram sabha resolution adopted by the Quelossim panchayat on July 22 to Saldanha.

According to information, a group of villagers had insisted on writing to Saldanha about the objections raised by locals as this would be a written record to prove there had been communication between the panchayat and the MLA’s office about their opposition.

Speaking to media, Quelossim-based activist Lopinho Xavier accused Tourism Minister Manohar Ajgaonkar of misleading the recent assembly session that there was no opposition to the proposed hotel project at Kesarval.

He also alleged that Cortalim MLA Alina Saldanha had been a mute spectator and not corrected Ajgaonkar.

“The Gram Sabha resolution, once written to the MLA from the panchayat office, would be an official record to register opposition from villagers for the project,” he said.

It may be recalled that the Quelossim gram sabha had unanimously resolved and rejected the proposal to build a hotel at the Kesarval springs.

“The gram sabha had unanimously resolved not to issue licence for mega projects as there was no proper infrastructure like electricity, water and garbage treatment for the existing population of Quelossim,” said Xavier.
