Quelossim P’yat secures stay on floating resort project; villagers vow to continue protest

PANAJI: The Quelossim Village Panchayat has secured a stay from the Deputy Director of Panchayats on the provisional No Objection Certificate (NOC) earlier granted by the Block Development Officer (BDO) for the proposed floating resort project in the village.

Describing the order as a temporary relief, the Panchayat and villagers thanked the residents of Quelossim for their united support and expressed gratitude to MLA Anton Vas for backing their demand and helping secure the stay. The proposed project, which has been pending since 2012, will remain on hold until further proceedings.

The project pertains to M/s Movaj Enterprises' proposal to establish a floating recreational platform, park and resort on Survey No. 170/0 in Quelossim village.

Strong opposition to the project was reiterated during a special Gram Sabha convened by the Village Panchayat this Sunday, where residents and Panchayat members unanimously objected to the proposal.

While welcoming the stay order, Panchayat members and villagers said their agitation would continue until the project is permanently scrapped. They also urged MLA Anton Vas to ensure the proposal is withdrawn before the 2027 Assembly elections, bringing an end to a protest that has continued for more than a decade.
