Qurbani: Four days Sec 144 around Goa meat complex, Usgao abattoir

Ahead of the Qurbani, South Goa District Magistrate Asvin Chandru has issued an order under Section 144 of the CrPC prohibiting gathering of four or more persons in and around the periphery of the compound wall of the Goa meat complex and within one kilometer radius from the compound wall of the modernised Abattoir, Usgao-Ponda for a period of four days.

The order will come into force with effect from 00.00 hors of June 16 till the midnight of June 19.

The district Collector has also appointed three officers as Executive Magistrates for controlling the law and order situation as and when the animals/ meat is being transported into Goa.

The district Magistrate has issued the order under Section 144 of the CrPC due to past incidents wherein some gathering had taken place near the Goa Meat Complex, Usgao along with display of anti-slaughter banners.

He said such a situation may cause tension in the society leading to breach of communal peace and tranquility.

As per practice, the All Goa Muslim Jamats Association will be transporting animals from other states via Mollem gate in Dharbandora taluka and Pollem gate in Canacona taluka for transportation to the modernised Abattoir, Usgao during Eid festival.
