After days of rising temperatures that pushed the mercury to 37.4°C, Goa received a spell of relief on Saturday, with the maximum temperature dropping to 32.3°C following early-morning rainfall. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) Goa has forecast more rain and thunderstorms over the next two days, with gusty winds likely at isolated places.
IMD’s daily bulletin stated that the State recorded 14.5 mm of rainfall on Saturday against the normal of 3.7 mm, marking a 289.8 percent departure from the average. During the 24 hours ending at 8.30 am on Saturday, North Goa received 19.2 mm of rainfall, while South Goa and Kushavati districts recorded 30.6 mm.
The rainfall came after maximum temperatures climbed to 37.4°C, rising from around 36°C earlier in the week. The drop in temperature brought a break from the heat, although the IMD has indicated that temperatures could gradually rise again in the coming days.
Maximum temperatures are expected to remain around 30-31°C till Sunday before edging up to 31-32°C through October 23.
The IMD has also forecast light to moderate rainfall or thundershowers after afternoon hours across districts on Sunday and Monday. Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds of 30-40 kmph are likely at isolated places.
