Rains may have disrupted normal life and damaged property elsewhere in the State, but it has brought cheer to farmers in Sattari taluka with many of them undertaking paddy cultivation.
Paddy is being cultivated in about 450 hectares of land across different parts of Sattari taluka.
Once considered the traditional and most widespread occupation in Sattari, paddy cultivation had been on the decline in recent times due to different factors.
“The agriculture department has set a target of 450 hectares of paddy in Sattari and efforts are underway to extend paddy cultivation in other areas of the taluka,” said a source from the Valpoi agriculture office.
“Newer techniques of paddy cultivation has enabled greater production with lesser effort.”
Shripad Gawas, a paddy cultivator, told The Goan that farmers in Sattari have been busy in paddy cultivation in Zarme and other parts of the taluka.
Speaking to reporters, Valpoi ZAO Prakash Raut said the agriculture department has set a target of achieving paddy cultivation in 450 hectares of land across Sattari taluka.
