Leaders and workers of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday evening took out a rally in the city to celebrate Indian army’s surgical strikes across the LOC in Pakistan in the wee hours of Thursday.
The rally was led by party South Goa MP Narendra Sawaikar, former MLA Damu Naik, local party leaders councillor Rupesh Mahatme, Sharmad Raiturkar and BJP Margao president Subodh Govekar. The rally later culminated into a public meeting at the historic Lohia Maidan.
In his brief address, the South Goa MP complimented Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar and the armed forces for the surgical strikes against the terrorist camps in Pakistan.
“This is the government’s response to the Uri terror attack. The Prime Minister and Defence Minister has shown to the world that India will take on terror groups sheltered in Pakistan head on,” he said, adding that the government and the army top brass were planning how to execute the surgical strikes during the last eight days.
Damu Naik, in his address, said the strikes across the LOC in Pakistan has sent a clear message to the Pakistan leadership that India means business and will not take things lying down any longer. He praised the Prime Minister and the Defence Minister for the successful operation.
Slogans in support of Modi and Parrikar, and the armed forces rent the air during the rally.
