Eight newly-elected councillors of Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC) attended a meeting convened by Valpoi MLA Vishwajeet Rane in Panaji on Friday, where it was decided that the post of chairperson and vice-chairperson would be rotated within the ruling group.
Sources told 'The Goan' that former VMC chairman and three-time Councillor Ramdas Shirodkar (Ward 2) is tipped to head the council, while former VMC vice-chairperson and Ward 10 Councillor Shaizin Shaikh is expected to be the new vice-chairperson.
Besides Shirodkar and Shaizin, the other newly-elected councillors of Vishwajeet's panel who were present at the meeting in Panaji included Parveen Shaikh, Sarfaras Sayed, Anil Katkar, Akhtar Shah, Parveen Khan and Anjali Chari.
The meeting was convened to finalise the chairperson and vice-chairperson of the 10-member VMC, who are to be installed on November 5.
“It was decided at the meeting that the post of chairperson and vice-chairperson would be on a rotation basis,” a councillor present the meeting told 'The Goan'.
“After one-and-half years, Shirodkar and Shaizin will step down and they will be replaced by Parveen Shaikh and Sarfaras Sayed as chairperson and vice-chairperson respectively for the next one-and-half year. For the remaining two years, Akhtar Shah will serve as chairperson, while Parveen Khan will serve as vice-chairperson. Anil Katkar will be the member of standing committee for all the five years,” the councillor added.
