MARGAO
Residents of the Ramnagiri Housing Society located at Mugali in Sao Jose de Areal, who were facing disconnection of water supply over discharge of sewage into the drains, got relief on Wednesday after the Sewage Infrastructure Development Corporation of Goa requested the Curtorim Health Centre not to disconnect the water connections.
A delegation of the residents led by former ZP member Moreno Rebello called on the general manager of SIDCG Prakash Pai on Wednesday and pointed out that the residents are not to be blamed for the delay in completing the sewerage line.
Moreno said though the sewerage network is in place in the locality, the housing society is not connected to the line over the delay in completing work on the pumping stations.
The residents pointed out that the PWD, water supply officials came to disconnect the supply to the housing society following a letter by the Curtorim primary health centre for creating a nuisance by discharging the sewage in the drain.
Pai told the media that the corporation has written to the Primary Health officer not to disconnect the water connection to the Ramnagiri Housing Society.
In his letter, he pointed out that the sewer network has already been laid in Ramnagri housing society but could not be commissioned as the connecting sewage pumping station at Davorlim is not completed. “The work of electro-mechanical works and pumping main is to be done which will take around two months. Once that is completed, the sewer network of the society can be connected to the public sewerage system. Till then, you are requested not to disconnect their water supply connections,” Pai said.
Meanwhile, activist Freddy Travasso from Sao Jose de Areal pointed out the resident society has been creating a nuisance by releasing their sewage water in the drains.
