PANAJI

Retired Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, Ferdino Rebello, has accused the Goa government of trying to silence the ‘Enough is Enough’ citizens’ movement, which he mentors. In a video statement, Rebello said the movement’s meeting would go ahead online at 4 pm on May 30 after authorities withdrew permission to use Azad Maidan. He urged people across Goa to join the virtual event, saying the campaign would not be silenced.

The movement, launched to protect Goa’s land, environment and identity, had planned to hold a public meeting at Azad Maidan. However, the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) withdrew permission at the last minute, forcing organisers to shift the event online.

The meeting will discuss five resolutions. The main proposal seeks to stop the alleged illegal conversion of agricultural and forest land for commercial use under the Goa Agricultural Land Act, 2026.

Another resolution will call for a detailed study of Goa’s carrying capacity with budgetary support.

The movement has pledged to fight corruption and support NGOs working to protect Goa’s environment, forests and farmlands. It will also seek action against what Rebello described as the influence of corrupt ministers, MLAs and officials, and demand withdrawal of “false cases” against activists.

The campaign has also launched a YouTube channel to share updates and mobilise support.
