Call it an expression of solidarity with a supporting partner or simply government at the doorsteps, the saffron brigade led by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant descended in Curtorim constituency represented by Independent MLA Reginaldo Lourenco to launch a host of development projects on Friday evening.

Around half a dozen Ministers, besides hosts of ruling party MLAs shared the dais as the Chief Minister launched development projects virtually from the Alegria open air hall, marking the launching of 10 major projects, ranging from Maina-Curtorim police station building; upgradation of the Curtorim Primary Health Centre, replacement of old water pipelines, etc. The Chief Minister further promised to help the Curtorim MLA with land to set up an old age home and to set up a rice mill under central funding.

The Chief Minister reminded the people that he has hardly seen the assembly of so many Ministers and MLAs on a single platform for such an occasion in recent times, saying “this only goes to show the love and affection the Ministers and MLAs have for Reginaldo”.

As the projects rained in Curtorim, the Chief Minister said Reginaldo could not have so many projects in his constituency when the Congress was in power for five years. “Just because he is an Independent MLA supporting the BJP, that he could launch so many projects in Curtorim,” Sawant said.

He further reminded that only the BJP has resolved the decade-old Sonsodo issue, which has been an eyesore for the people of Curtorim as well as neighbouring Margao and Fatorda. “The Congress government had failed to clear Sonsodo all these years. The Congress had also failed to clear the waste dumps elsewhere in the State. It is only the BJP that is instrumental in clearing the Sonsodo and other waste dumps,” he added.

On Reginaldo’s political future, the Chief Minister said he will not request the four-time Curtorim MLA to contest the 2027 Assembly election on the BJP banner.

In his address, Reginaldo profusely thanked the Chief Minister and all other Ministers for taking up the development projects in Curtorim as he assured the people that he would also remain at their service. “I had promised the people in 2022 that I would not take up issues across the State, but concentrate on development in my constituency. People will see a big difference on the development front,” he asserted.
