PANAJI
Fatorda MLA, Vijai Sardesai on Saturday alleged that the recent decision of the government to freeze rent-a-car permits in the State is a scam with agents having collected money in the cities of Margao, Vasco, Panaji and Mapusa from aspiring rent-a-car licences.

Addressing a press conference in Panaji, Sardesai said he has come across people who have alleged that they have paid up to Rs 1 lakh to a minister’s PA to get the rent-a-car licences.

“Money has been collected from hundreds of people in each centre,” Sardesai alleged, demanding that the government come clean on the issue and promising to take it up during the upcoming monsoon session of the Assembly.

He said, after collecting the money now suddenly the government has announced that rent-a-car licencing will be frozen.

“The minister must be sacked,” Sardesai demanded.

Sardesai said his Goa Forward Party had started an outreach campaign on June 29 to understand issues people are dealing with in all the 12 talukas so he can raise them during the monsoon session.

He alleged that wherever he went he heard stories of rampant corruption in the government where nothing works without paying money.

“Corruption has increased, the administration has collapsed and nothing happens without shelling out money,” Sardesai said while addressing the

media along with his party leaders.

He said he will be raising these issues in the assembly even as he alleged that the government has suddenly become proactive on some issues allegedly to pre-empt them from being raised in the House.
