Repair work has started at the Ganesh idol immersion site near the Mandop bridge in Navelim and is expected to be completed within two days.
Navelim MLA Ulhas Tuemkar said the work will ensure better convenience and safety for devotees coming for immersion rituals. “Earlier, devotees faced problems as there was no proper access road to carry the idols and no adequate arrangements at the immersion point,” he said.
After requests from local residents, the MLA directed the Public Works Department (PWD) engineers to take up repair and temporary facility work immediately. Acting on these instructions, the PWD has begun the required arrangements at the site.
The Mandop immersion site caters to idols from Mandop, Dongri, Navelim, Nagmodem and nearby areas. With the improvements, devotees are expected to have a smoother experience during immersion, Tuemkar added.
He further said that a full plan for the development and beautification of the Mandop immersion site has already been prepared and will be taken up soon.
Tuemkar also pointed out that a similar Ganesh idol immersion site has recently been developed at Layamati–Davorlim, helping devotees from Navelim as well as surrounding villages.
