Permission to residential complexes, migrant verification and sopo collection dominated the gram sabha proceedings in Tivim on Sunday.
Locals expressed concern over no objection certificates issued by the village panchayat to residential complexes as these would add pressure on the crumbling infrastructure in the village.
“Besides facing severe shortage of water supply in parts of the village, the panchayat has also miserably failed to tackle the garbage problem. The panchayat cannot provide proper service to the locals but yet it gives permission to set up residential complexes with 80 to 100 flats,” said Vinod Kandolkar.
Deputy Sarpanch Vital Vaigankar informed that the panchayat had no choice but to issue NOCs as the Town and Country Planning department issues all licences to the developers.
“The panchayat is helpless on the issue. We are forced to issue NOC as the developers have all the permissions from the TCP department,” Vaigankar, who was officiating in place of Sarpanch Sharmila Gadekar, said.
Locals later suggested that the panchayat henceforth stop issuing NOCs to residential complexes unless proper infrastructure was set up in the village.
On tenant verification, the villagers urged the panchayat to conduct proper survey to bring on record the number of tenants living in the village.
The deputy sarpanch informed that each ward member will be requested to obtain information about tenants staying in their area.
Several villagers demanded that local vendors should be given the opportunity to do business in the panchayat area. “A number of migrant vendors can be seen indulging in illegal businesses on the roadside. Such migrants should be stopped and local vendors should be given preference,” a villager said.
Acknowledging the demand of the villagers, the deputy sarpanch said the panchayat will look into the matter.
The gram sabha had a long discussion on the budget for the village panchayat and after recommending certain changes approved the budget for 2019-20.
