Residents of Candolim requested the panchayat to seek police action to stop visitors from littering the coastal village.
The residents put forth their grievances at the Candolim panchayat Gram Sabha which was chaired by Sarpanch Blaise Fernandes. “Broken bottles pose a danger to those strolling on the beach at night time,” said the local.
Some residents also that most tourists on the beach were seen without face masks. “We will write to police to take action regarding these issues,” said Fernandes.
Owners of small and medium guesthouses as well as hotels submitted an appeal to the panchayat requesting a reduction in business taxes and garbage tax, considering that the Covid pandemic had severely crippled small businesses. The sarpanch assured that the panchayat would take appropriate decision after evaluating their appeal.
A number of issues were also discussed during the gram sabha.
Meanwhile, the panchayat felicitated 48 Covid warriors who worked relentlessly during the pandemic. PHC Health Officer Dr Roshan Nazareth, PHC staff, members of Lions Club and Leo Club were felicitated on the occasion.
