A group of 27 members of the Maharatrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) moved a no-confidence motion against party President Deepak Dhavalikar, even though Dhavalikar questioning the constitutional validity of the move. Dhavalikar argued against the motion when elections for the central committee including the post of President are to be held within a month or two.
"I have received a copy of the no-cofidence motion letter against Deepak Dhavalikar. There are various allegations in the no-confidence motion," said Ratnakar Mardolkar, deputy president of MGP while adding that the Central Committee will decide on the no-cofidence motion.
In a letter to the party, the members have accused Dhavalikar of not holding elections in 2019, not addressing the issues raised by 25 members in 2017, illegally occupying the chair of the president for the year 2020 and not holding general body meetings for last 6 years except in 2017. The members have also alleged that Dhavalikar is illegally trying to sack general secretary Lavoo Mamledar from the post.
Pointing out that the constitution of the party does not give any right for moving such a motion, Dhavalikar also questioned the identity of all the 27 members who have signed the no-confidence motion.
"This looks like a bogus letter. Those who have signed the letter have not mentioned their names or phone numbers. Let them hold a press conference," said Dhavalikar.
Dhavslikar refuted all the allegations levelled against him.
He said that the election for the post of central committee was supposed to be held earlier in January 2020 but was deferred due to Zilla Panchayat elections (which was posponed) and then due to COVID-19 pandemic situation.
"Party has around 700 members and holding meeting of all members is not allowed during pandemic," argued Dhavalikar.
Dhavalikar also hinted that the election for the central committee of the party would be held within a month or two.
MGP committe meeting is held every 3 years. The election was supposed to be held in January 2020 but could not be due to the ZP election and the Covid situation.
