Rivona locals tired of littering at tourists spots

Annoyed at a few people for littering and creating nuisance at tourist spots in the village, residents of Rivona have demanded strict action against those throwing garbage and misbehaving at tourist spots in Rivona village.

The residents during the recent gram sabha had said that many domestic tourists and locals visit places like Taka Zorr, Pandava (Buddhist) caves, rock carving spot in Rivona and litter garbage at the spots.

It is common knowledge that Taak spring has medicinal properties and people from Quepem, Sanguem and nearby areas visit the spring during the monsoon, while people from neighbouring villages and cities also visit the spring in summer.

The residents said in recent times, picnickers and other visitors litter the place with plastic waste, bottles and other garbage. Tourists also drink alcohol and get involved in verbal and physical fights under the influence of alcohol.

When contacted, some locals said many visitors play loud music, quarrel with villagers under the influence of alcohol, trouble the villagers and pollute the environment where the spring is located. They said despite requests not to create nuisance, things continue.

Panch Jose Alfonso said there is a need to post two policemen at these spots to keep a check and to monitor the activities at these spots or atleast patrolling is needed to stop such nuisance.

Sarpanch Sarvesh Velip said it is the duty of each and every person to protect and maintain the sanctity of the places in the villages. “People should keep in mind to be disciplined whenever they visit places in our village.”
