It’s over two months now since the new fishing season started on August 1, but the government is yet to take up repairs of the Cutbona fishing jetty “ the state’s major fishing hub.
Not only huge craters have surfaced on the road at the jetty, the fisheries road, connecting the jetty to the main Betul road, is also craving for attention.
Boat owners pointed out they are feeling the heat of the bad condition of the road with the fishing season slowly and steadily picking up now.
Outstation vehicles and the vehicles from the state are now coming to the jetty in large numbers to transport the fish catch, but the bad road condition has come to haunt the stakeholders.
Chairman of the Cutbona Fisheries Society Vinay Tari said the condition of the road has been deteriorating with each passing day.
“We had in the past brought the matter to the attention of the Fisheries Department to take it up with the PWD. We will do the follow-up with the department,” he said.
A boat owner Cyprian Cardozo pointed out that the road, if left without repairs, will turn unmotorable, posing risks and hardships to the motorists. “I only hope that the government would intervene and undertake the repairs before the potholes spread,” he added.
Velim Sarpanch Savio D’Silva, who is a boat owner, said the maintenance of the road in question falls in the domain of the PWD.
“The Fisheries Department ought to have taken up the matter with the PWD since dozens of trucks will come to the Cutbona jetty to transport the fish catch,” he added.
The Velim Sarpanch said the main fisheries road, connecting the Cutbona jetty to the Betul road should be redone by the PWD, as it has turned bumpy at many stretches posing a risk to the motorists.
