The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) on Wednesday said the State government was taking Goans for a ride by offering Rs 2 lakh ex-gratia to a family who has a Covid-19 deceased when the central government was actually offering a higher package.
“The Centre offers Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia to the family of the person who died of Covid-19 but the State government is donating only Rs 2 lakh of the amount to the Goans. This is nothing short of a con job. We need to know who pockets the balance Rs 2 lakh,” alleged Sanjay Barde, General Secretary of NCP.
The NCP general secretary along with his associates was addressing a news conference in his Mapusa office.
Speaking further, Barde said the State government was playing with the lives of Goans even as a weak opposition has made the task easier for the government of the day.
He said the government offers Rs 1 lakh to every girl child on her birth but can offer only Rs 2 lakh for the death of the only earning member of a family.
“It is clear that the State government is cheating the people while doling out just half the amount apportioned by the Centre to a Covid-19 deceased,” he alleged.
The NCP general secretary said the government has imposed curfew to bring down the positivity rate but at the same time it has directed all the government servants to report to work, which is an inexplicable contradiction.
He lauded the decision of Ports Minister Michael Lobo for being first to impose curfew in Calangute, which was replicated by most of the panchayats in the State.
He requested the government to make its mind clear on restarting of the new academic year for schools.
“The government should hold an assembly session to debate on the crucial issue of restarting schools in the new academic year,” Barde said.
He also urged the government to investigate the correlation of 5G radiation and the Covid-19 disease.
