Rajya Sabha MP Sadanand Shet Tanavade on Monday raised the demand for direct flights from Goa to Shirdi and Goa to Tirupati under the UDAN regional connectivity scheme.
Raising the matter in the Rajya Sabha, Tanavade said a large number of Goan pilgrims travel to both destinations through the year but are currently dependent on crowded trains and buses. Air travellers, he told the House, are forced to take connecting flights with long layovers through other cities, resulting in delays, inconvenience, and higher travel costs.
Tanavade urged the Centre to introduce daily direct flights on both routes under the UDAN scheme to ease travel for thousands of devotees and promote religious tourism. He requested the government to consider the demand at the earliest.
