The ruling Cuncolim Municipal Council group aligned to former Minister Joaquim Alemao was the cynosure of all eyes at the meeting when the Chairperson Laximan Naik told a ruling councillor Udesh Desai to go out of the meeting hall.
Heated arguments ensued between the Chairperson and the councillor over the former’s remark. Other ruling councillors also pointed out that the Chairperson’s remark was in bad taste.
Udesh, however, replied to the Chairperson saying he is representing 1200 people from his ward who have elected him to raise their issues. The young councillor protested over the Chairperson’s remark telling him to go out of the meeting hall. “I am only interested in the development of my ward and the municipal area. Tomorrow, the people should not say that the new council has not brought about any change,” he said, adding that he would continue to raise issues of public importance.
The Chairperson said he just made the remark out of anger when the councillor was speaking without permission. “He was talking without permission and was castigating me as if he was the chairperson and I a councillor. Out of anger, I might have made the remark, but it was not intended that way,” he added.
