A technical fault in the runway lighting system at Goa International Airport in Dabolim on Thursday evening disrupted flight operations and led to the diversion of two incoming flights to Mopa.

According to airport officials, the issue occurred when the runway lights malfunctioned temporarily, making it unsafe for aircraft to land. As a result, two IndiGo flights — one from Delhi and the other from Chennai — were diverted to Manohar International Airport in Mopa as a precautionary measure.

Sources said that the passengers on the affected flights were informed of the diversion mid-air and later disembarked safely at Mopa. Arrangements were being made by the airline to assist them with onward travel and transfers, sources said.

The Airports Authority of India (AAI) confirmed that the technical issue was swiftly addressed by the engineering team, and normal flight operations resumed at Dabolim airport later in the evening.

This instance is not new, where a technical snag has impacted operations at the Dabolim airport. Authorities have assured that steps are being taken to ensure that such glitches do not recur.
