Haphazard laying of cables without coordination amongst government agencies was exposed hollow on Wednesday after the water pipeline ruptured near the Gomant Vidya Niketan in the heart of the city in the wee hours of Wednesday.

While the damaged water pipeline lay underground, around half-a-dozen cables, including power and telephone cables have been found laid all over the water line, indicating absence of co-ordination amongst the government departments while laying of cables.
Of the half a dozen cables lying underground, Electricity Assistant Engineer Carlos Fernandes informed that only a lone power cable belonged to the Electricity department, adding that the remaining cables must have been laid by BSNL. PWD officials pointed out that the department is never taken into confidence by other departments while laying cables.
