OLD GOA
South Goa MP Viriato Fernandes stated that he has already raised objections to the setting up of railway stations at three places in the State including Neura, Sarzora and Mayem.
Fernandes made the statement while addressing a gathering of locals from Azossim, Mandur and Neura who sought support from the MP to oppose the railway station project in Neura.
“I have already raised my objections to the three proposed railway stations with the Konkan Railway Users Consultative Committee. Even though, Mayem locals did not approach me I raised objections to setting up of railway station there also,” MP Fernandes stated while assuring the Neura locals that he would extend his support in opposition to railway station at Neura.
“I have also asked for further clarity in the matter like who proposed it, who demanded and the purpose,” Fernandes informed.
The MP however urged that there has to be unity among the locals over the issue without which the battle cannot be won.
Further, Fernandes stated that he suspects that the railway stations are being setup for handling of coal.
“If not, then the government should tell the public why there is a need to set up additional railway stations,” Fernandes said.
Later, the locals submitted a memorandum to the MP requesting his intervention in opposition to the setting up of railway station at Neura.
Neura Sarpanch Manisha Naik, deputy sarpanch, panchas and others were present.
