Representatives of Sanguem Block Congress on Friday petitioned the assistant engineer of the PWD at Sanguem, demanding the immediate repair and blacktopping of the damaged surface of the Bamonsai (Nondurlem) Bridge in Sanguem.
The delegation was led by Satyavan Sanvlo Gaonkar, Caetano Martins Fernandes, Jeetendra Naik and several other Congress workers.
In the memorandum, the delegation stated that the bridge, situated on the road connecting Ambdoi, Nondurlem and Kalay villages, has deteriorated extensively and is presently riddled with large craters and potholes, posing a serious threat to motorists and pedestrians.
They pointed out that the situation has become particularly hazardous during the ongoing monsoon season, as the potholes remain submerged under rainwater, making them invisible to road users.
Poor visibility during night hours has further increased the danger, especially for two-wheeler riders, school-going students, senior citizens and daily commuters.
The Congress leaders emphasised that the road is an important lifeline for the residents of Ambdoi, Nondurlem and Kalay villages, with hundreds of people using the bridge every day for work, education, medical emergencies and other essential purposes.
The present condition of the bridge, they said, has caused immense hardship and created an imminent risk of serious accidents.
The memorandum requested the PWD to undertake immediate repair and restoration of the bridge surface by carrying out proper blacktopping in the larger interest of public safety.
The delegation sought that the necessary repair works be commenced within a period of fifteen days from the receipt of the representation.
