Hitting out at accusations against engineers from the electricity department, Saligao MLA Kedar Naik has said the electricity department has the right to disconnect electricity connections of those consumers who default on payments.
Naik was responding to queries from reporters at Sangolda, after a social activist from Reis Magos had accused electricity department engineers of harassing consumers and forcibly disconnecting electrical connections.
“False allegations are made against the electricity department engineers. They are government servants and are duty bound to obey instructions of their superiors. If consumers do not pay the electricity charges on time, the electricity department has the right to disconnect the connection of those consumers. There are some habitual offenders in Reis Magos and their electricity connections have been cut off by the electricity department,” said Naik.
The Saligao MLA launched the construction of drainage works at Belavista-Sangolda in the presence of Zilla Parishad member Sandeep Bandodkar, Sarpanch Neeta Kandolkar, panch members Wilma Alvares, Avinash Naik and Jalisha Tulaskar and locals.
Naik stated that the drainage at Bellavista was the long-pending demand of the locals.
“During rains, water from Shantinagar which is located at a higher altitude would flow down the Bellavista area and enter the houses. As there was no drainage, water would accumulate on the road and affect the smooth movement of traffic.” said Naik.
“This 100-metre long drainage is being constructed at a cost of Rs 8 lakh from MLA-LAD funds. Recently, two more drainages, one each at Baroswado and Bellavista, have been constructed at a cost of Rs 15 lakh and Rs 8 lakh respectively,” said Naik.
