Admitting that it is difficult for farmers to get labour at reasonable rates, Saligao MLA Kedar Naik has suggested the use of drone technology to spray organic nutrients in fields and has even offered to bear the expenses of using the technology.
He was speaking at Sangolda after launching a harvesting machine for the benefit of Sangolda farmers, in the presence of Sangolda Sarpanch Jalisha Tulaskar, Dy Sarpanch Ulhas Morajkar and panch members. “Agriculture is the backbone of the Indian economy and farmers are its soul. However, agriculture is no longer a profitable business and farmers face a lot of hardship. Rainfall is irregular and there is a scarcity of labour,” said Naik.
“The time has now come to use drones in the fields. This is a highly effective precision farming technique that allows organic and commercial farmers to distribute organic nutrients rapidly without damaging the soil or crops.”
“I will speak to the authorities concerned to provide a drone to farmers of Saligao constituency, and the expenses will be borne by me,” he added.
The MLA said it is government’s duty to provide all kinds of support to encourage farming activities. “I have decided to bear expenses of a harvesting machine. Farmers should make payments to authorities to hire harvesting machine, and they should submit the receipts to my office. I will ensure payments are released to the farmers immediately,” said Naik.
Sangolda Sarpanch Jalisha Tulaskar also spoke on the occasion.
