Saligao MLA stranded as EVM snag hits Reis Magos booth

PORVORIM
Saligao MLA Kedar Naik was among the electorate stranded for some time after an Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) developed a technical snag at a polling booth in Reis Magos.

According to reports, Naik had gone to the Polling Booth 32 at Reis Magos when the EVM developed a technical snag. Naik and others in the queue were held up for quite some time, before the snag was rectified and he was allowed to vote.

While soft drinks were made available at the polling booth they were not served to voters in the morning.

When enquired, the officer incharge of the polling booth mentioned that they have received instruction to serve it to voters between 12 noon and 3 pm. However, some voters who had cast their votes at 12.30 noon complained to this correspondent that they were not served the soft drinks.

Meanwhile, people from Porvorim and Saligao constituencies turned out in large numbers to exercise their franchise.

In the morning, there was a steady turnout at the polling stations in both constituencies but in the afternoon the voters were seen trickling in. In the evening, long queues of voters were seen at the polling stations.

There was a heavy deployment of police personnel at all polling stations. Flying squads were seen moving in all parts of Porvorim and Saligao constituencies.

After voting, Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte told media persons that there has been a good turnout of voters in his Porvorim constituency.

“It is the responsibility of residents of Porvorim to come out in large number and vote to achieve the objective of Viksit Bharat,” said Khaunte.
