PANAJI:
Even before he could visit the Secretariat and take charge, Goa's new Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant paid a courtesy visit to the family of his pre-decessor and mentor Manohar Parrikar at Dona Paula and met his sons Utpal and Abhijat.
He then proceeded to Mahalaxmi Temple in Panjim to pay obeisance before going to the Secretariat at Porvorim.
Sawant also paid tributes to Parrikar at the party headquarters later in the afternoon.
Sawant meanwhile said that the State government will build a samadhi for Parrikar at Miramar in the vicinity of the one standing in memory of Goa's first chief minister Dayanand Bandodkar.
“We will have a similar samadhi like Bahusaheb Bandokar's at Miramar where Parrikar was cremated,” Sawant said.
"I can’t tell you right now whether the memorial will be completed before Parrikar's birthday (December 13) or not,” Sawant said responding to a question.
