Sancoale panch Tulshidas Naik was arrested and later released on bail on charges of obstructing official proceedings during a fortnightly meeting at the Sancoale panchayat office on Wednesday.
According to a complaint at the Verna police station, Panchayat Secretary Orville Vales stated that the incident took place at about 11.05 am while the panchayat body meeting was in progress.
Naik was accused of snatching the minutes book, and flinging it on the floor, disrupting the meeting and preventing the secretary from performing his lawful duties.
The accused was arrested by Verna police under Section 221 of the BNS and Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act and was later released on bail.
The minutes book was also reportedly damaged in the incident.
The arrest and subsequent investigation are being led by Verna PSI Nikhil Desai under the Supervision of PI Melson Colaco and the guidance of Mormugao DySP Gurudas Kadam.
