A 58-year-old man from Belavista in Sangolda died after accidentally falling in the septic tank behind his house on Thursday morning.
According to police reports, family members became concerned after Rosario Mascarenhas was not seen in and around the house, and began searching for him.
On reaching the septic tank, they noticed that cover of the septic tank was broken and a red shirt could be seen. They suspected that Mascarenhas may have fallen into the septic tank and alerted the Saligao police station.
A Saligao police team led by PSI Akshay Phatarpekar rushed to the spot and then notified the Pilerne fire station. A fire brigade led by Pilerne Fire Station Officer Sunny Faide went to the site and removed some water from the septic tank.
The body was later pulled out from the septic tank and sent to the Goa Medical College Hospital at Bambolim for an autopsy, which will be performed on Friday.
Saligao police has registered a case of unnatural death.
